The Extent Of Liberty

1st Cor 8

Patricia was a big time fan of Danielle steel’s novels, she had been reading them since s. s 1 and now she was in 400 level! she had read over twenty of the books and still had some unread ones on her shelf. She had also just become the minister in charge of new converts in her campus fellowship; there was this particular 100 level convert – Anna, who really liked Pat and always looked up to her for advice.
One afternoon, Anna came to visit Pat in the hostel and saw all the Danielle’s collection, Anna was surprised and felt Pat should not be reading such books, according to Anna, they were worldly books and were not good for Christians because they dint talk about God. Initially Pat thought to tell the Girl that they were books she read for leisure and were not harmful to her, but one look at Anna’s sad face made her remember 1st Cor 8, remembered she was minister in charge of new converts and besides she had nothing to lose if she stopped reading D. S novels so that this girl in front of her would not lose her salvation and with all those thoughts, she looked at Anna and promised not to read the books again if it will make her feel better. She was rewarded with a smile and a huge bear hug.
As christains, we are free in Christ- free to engage in social practices and customs not specifically forbidden by Biblical commands. Yet the Holy Spirit may prompt us to refrain from some legitimate practices. The principle of Love must take precedence over the principle of liberty. A mature christain will heed the “extent of liberty” sign to keep from causing a weaker believer to have a serious accident.

Nigerian Youths- 50% UNEMPLOYED or 50% UNEMPLOYABLE?

My Sister and I were home this morning and we heard someone comment on TV that 50% of the youths in Nigeria are unemployed. This then got us talking, are these youths, really unemployed because there are no jobs or they are unemployed because they are unemployable? By unemployable, what we mean is a lot of Nigerian youths do not have a presentable packaging when they are seeking employment, they lack spunk and carriage, you come for an interview and you're late, not properly dressed or without an idea of what the organization you are seeking employment from is about! Even you yourself, wouldn't want to employ yourself. Yet, we find some people however even when employed lack the key skills that they require to remain employed. We see lots of cases of people who are not diligent with their work, they resume late, are never on their seats, fight their co workers, dress shabbily, pile up their work saying after all, I can't kill myself, (in my Sister's words, you actual...

THE CENTRE OF GOD'S WORD

This is pretty strange how it worked out this way. Even if you are not religious, you should read this. Q- What is the shortest chapter in the bible? Psalm 117 q- What is the longest chapter in the bible? Psalm 119 q- Which chapter is in the centre of the bible? Psalm 118 Facts: there are 594 chapters before psalm 118 There are 594 chapters after psalm 118 Add these numbers up and you get 1188 q- What is the centre verse in the bible? Psalm 118:8 Does this verse say something significant about God’s perfect will for our lives? The next time someone says they would like to find God’s perfect will for their lives and that they want to be in the centre of His will, just send them to the centre of His word. Psalm 118:8 “it is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man” Now isn’t that odd how this worked out.... Or was God in the centre ...
